  • What are the advantages of a jet helmet?

    Jet helmets aren't all bad news. In fact, in the city, where speeds are moderate, it can even be a wise choice. The jet offers a wider field of vision, which is very useful in urban environments, and good ventilation. In summer, when it's very hot in the city, the jet helmet proves very comfortable. Last but not least, it' s the lightest of all motorcycle helmets. On average, a jet helmet weighs 1 kg, compared with 1.4 kg for a full-face or 1.6 kg for a modular helmet. If you have sensitive neck muscles, you'll appreciate this helmet.

  • Can I take my driving test with a jet helmet?

    Absolutely! As long as your jet helmet is ECE-approved to the current standard, and the reflective stickers have been correctly applied, he can't refuse. Licence inspectors don't really like jet helmets, though, because they offer less safety (no chin strap) and, in traffic, you're less likely to hear their instructions.

  • What are the different types of jet helmets?

    The jet comes in two sub-categories.

    First, there's the "classic" jet. These range from simple models with a skullcap and visor to hyper-sophisticated helmets with a multitude of options to enhance comfort and safety. The latter can be distinguished from a full-face helmet only by the absence of a chin strap and a much wider field of vision. They're generally popular with city dwellers, but not only.

    The second type of jet is the "neo-retro" model, which is very popular at the moment. As I said earlier, they're often to die for aesthetically. And that's essentially what they're all about. Vintage spirit obliges, you won't find a double sunscreen or any other "high tech" option. But be warned, these are faux-vintage helmets that protect like the latest-generation helmets that they are.

    To get the full look (and incidentally, to see anything at all), as these helmets very rarely have a visor, you need to complement them with motorcycle goggles. Here too, the neo-retro craze means you don't have to go hunting for an old pair of Climaxes at the flea market: manufacturers offer very complete and functional ranges.
